Maria and Holger Ziessler

Pottery as it was known and practiced is slowly dissappearing not only in the Western world but in Bhutan as well. With the unique medieval style of firing her pots Maria Ziessler has created a niche for herself in South Africa. With salt and soda glazing (an ancient european artform), every batch is a distinct and new journey into the unkown.

Along with Vast Bhutan and various local potters, Holger and Maria will undertake a interactive pottery workshop at BHIF. Not only is ceramics this couple’s area of expertise, their creative way of combining the unimaginable has mesmerized many a visitor. From designing furniture with old engine manifolds or crankshafts to using natural resources to turn the simplest of tasks into an art form.
